Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

This position will be responsible for various areas of medical billing including preparation of invoicing to patients and insurance companies which will include verifying coding entry to ensure accurate billing. Position will assist in posting payments and resolving payment discrepancies. Will also assist Finance in producing reports from the accounts receivable subledger to support financial reporting.

 

  • Thoroughly review and understand Explanation of Benefits (EOBs).
  • Post payments based on EOBs from insurance companies, patients, and government agencies- Identify correct line-item charge to post patient payments
  • Utilize payer websites & dedicated call centers for claim status and claim review.
  • Review and follow up on claim denials and unpaid claims timely and take appropriate actions to resolve accounts.
  • Provide feedback on payer trends and issues prohibiting payment to Lead/Manager and report issues and concerns regarding account resolution to avoid write offs.
  • Complete Self Pay batches for billing.
  • Take and make calls to insurance companies and guarantors as required.
  • Assist in verifying providers are updated with insurance/government agencies.
  • Assist in projects as needed.

 

Qualifications

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

 

  • High School Diploma or GED required: Associates Degree is preferred.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of medical billing experience in a healthcare organization is required.
  • Understanding of major insurance carriers including HMOs, PPOs, and government payers, understand Medical Terminology.
  • Experience working accounts including billing, client balance, denials, and appeals.
  • Understanding of CPT and ICD-10.
  • Ability to deal with patients and staff with tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at once.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Prefer experience with Excel, Echo Software, NextGen Software.
